No nation's history can be adequately dealt with in a few sentences. All the same a few key facts may help to explain some of the references on these pages. These are meant as 'jumping off points' to further, more comprehensive reading on the subjects rather than a proper historical exploration. In addition, there are many common misconceptions about Scottish history, a few of which I attempt to correct here.
